Some light rubbing to the boards, fresh interior free of foxing. An eyewitness account of the War of 1870 and the Siege of Metz. Charles-Bernardin-Marie de Montluisant, lieutenant-colonel and commander of the artillery reserve of the 6th Corps, delivers an account very close to the events. He follows the operations of the Armée du Rhin, the battles around Metz, notably Rezonville and Saint-Privat, then the encirclement, the supply difficulties, the condition of the troops, and the decisions of the high command leading up to the capitulation.
First edition published a few months after the events. Valuable eyewitness account by an officer of the Armée du Rhin on the fighting and the capitulation of Metz, complete with its three large folding plans and elegantly bound.
