This Almanach is a work which « contains the division and nomenclature of the Constituted Authorities and provides exact information on all branches of public administration ». It is an official annual directory, from a time when such a work was essential for anyone dealing with the French constituted bodies. This almanac succeeds, in name only, the almanach royal, published from 1683 until 1814 by the d’Houry family. The last edition was that of 1919. This widely circulated work served financiers, politicians and any other readership with an interest in knowing the administrative organisation of France. This almanac was the fruit of a private initiative but took on an official character.</p>
