Gilt top edge; smooth spine with gilt author/title within a frame and date at the tail. Binding signed by Alphonse Mertens. 1220 copies were printed on tinted Rives paper (here no. 608), out of a total print run of 1300. Interior very fresh. Good condition. Translation by Stéphane Mallarmé. Illustrated with 12 etchings by Raphael Drouart. Romantic, fantastic, and melancholic poems, where Poe explores death, lost love, dreams, and the strange. Mallarmé's translation contributed significantly to making Poe known in France.
