Les vins des Côtes du Rhône.
1943
Les vins des Côtes du Rhône. Louis Larmat, Paris, 1943. First Edition. Dimensions: 104.6 × 44.4 cm. Very good condition. Published in the volume Les Vins des Côtes du Rhône of the Atlas de la France vinicole, the wine map of the Côtes du Rhône created by Louis Larmat constitutes one of the most precise and iconic representations of the northern Rhône vineyard in the 20th century. It offers a detailed cartography of the main appellations of the northern Rhône valley, including notably Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, Château-Grillet, Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage, Cornas, and Saint-Péray. The boundaries of the appellations, wine-growing communes, relief, hydrographic network, and communication routes are represented with remarkable precision, illustrating the organization of the terroirs and the development of the appellations d'origine contrôlée in the first decades of their official recognition. Beyond its own interest, this map is part of a major editorial project: the Atlas de la France vinicole by Louis Larmat, published between 1941 and 1947, which constitutes one of the first systematic cartography enterprises of French vineyards.
First Edition of this large, rare, and sought-after reference map. It illustrates the organization of the terroirs and the development of the appellations d'origine contrôlée in the first decades of their official recognition.
