Strasbourg, the Hospital
1968
The Hospital, Strasbourg. Luc Hueber Oil on hardboard panel, 1968. Dated and signed. Dimensions without frame: 55 x 46 cm. Van Eyck panel. Beautiful representation of the Hospital of Strasbourg. Peaceful composition under the snow of this Strasbourg institution. After World War II, while abstraction was becoming dominant in contemporary art, Hueber remained faithful to figurative painting. He continued to paint Strasbourg, the Alsatian countryside, and the surroundings of La Petite-Pierre, where he owned his summer residence. His painting gained spontaneity and freedom. The colors remain vivid and the overall atmosphere is imbued with serenity. This composition exudes the main traits of this period of the artist; a freer touch and a peaceful and optimistic atmosphere.
