The copy is further enhanced by an old pencil sketch representing a man of law, lawyer or magistrate, preserved on a loose sheet. Beautiful homogeneous set in its 18th-century binding. Abrasions and rubbing to the boards, some trimmed headcaps and signs of wear to the bindings. Interiors well preserved, with some scattered foxing. Important collective edition of the treatises of Robert-Joseph Pothier (1699-1772), one of the most eminent French jurists of the 18th century. Devoted in particular to obligations, contracts, sales, leases, insurance, marriage, property, possession, and prescription, his work provides a remarkable synthesis of the French law of the Ancien Régime. Pothier exerted a significant influence on the drafters of the Civil Code of 1804, several provisions of which directly incorporate the principles he had formulated.
