Important collective edition of the treatises of Robert-Joseph Pothier (1699-1772), one of the most eminent French jurists of the 18th century. Devoted in particular to obligations, contracts, sales, leases, insurance, marriage, property, possession, and prescription, his work provides a remarkable synthesis of the French law of the Ancien Régime. Pothier exerted a significant influence on the drafters of the Civil Code of 1804, several provisions of which directly incorporate the principles he had formulated.

A major work of French law from the Ancien Régime, this vast synthesis by Pothier on contracts, obligations, and property exerted a decisive influence on the Civil Code of 1804.
