Tripoli de Soria / Il Monte Libano PEETERS, Jan (draughtsman) VORSTERMAN II, Lucas (engraver) Anvers, circa 1665. Copper engraving, Sheet dimensions: 16.5 x 27.5 cm. Plate mark dimensions: 11.7 x 26.8 cm. Print on laid paper, marginal foxing. Engraved in the plate are the monogram "LV" (Lucas Vosterman) and "I. Peeters excudit". Good overall condition, short lateral margins. View of Tripoli from the sea. One can see the advanced fortifications, two galleys and a ship under sail. In the background, Mont Liban. The drawing is by Jan Peeters I, painter of seascapes and landscapes, engraved by Lucas Vorsterman II, son of the famous engraver of Rubens, and published by Jacob Peeters. A sought-after piece for its quality of execution and its documentary interest in the Ottoman Near East.
