Baigneuses. HALPERN (Frederick). Etching, drypoint. First half of the 19th century. Sheet dimensions: 24.5 x 32.2 cm. Plate mark dimensions: 17.3 x 23 cm. Very beautiful proof, numbered 5/25 and signed in pencil in the margin. This print exudes a beautiful atmosphere, achieved through the varied drypoint technique. The three bathers, with sharper lines at the center of the composition, are softened by the gentler branches of the arched trees overhanging the pond. This print testifies to both great sensitivity and technical mastery. Frederick Halpern (Vienna, 1909 - ?) learned painting and engraving in Vienna and Paris. His prints are very often pulled in small series of 25 copies. He traveled in Europe, Africa, and Asia, then settled in Australia in 1951. He was also a writer.
