This depicts a Shulamite. A character from the Song of Songs in the Bible, she is considered a captivating woman, loved with profound affection. Very good condition. Etching engraved by Léopold Flameng after the work of Alexandre Cabanel at the salon of 1876. Alexandre Cabanel (1823-1889) was a French painter considered one of the great academic painters of the Second Empire, and one of its most admired artists. He is notably recognized for his works: The Fallen Angel of 1847 and The Birth of Venus of 1863.
Beautiful Orientalist print. The Shulamite is often interpreted as a figure of beauty, love, and fidelity from the Song of Songs in the Bible. Beautiful inking and large margins.
