Half-vellum, smooth spine with title and illustrator. The blue cover with its printed label and the spine have been preserved. Work illustrated with six intaglio plates by Jean-Emile Laboureur, who also created the headpieces and initial letters. The plates are signed with the monogram in the subject. Complete with the engraved musical score plate. Limited edition of 575 numbered copies including the final state of the engravings on Vergé d’Arches paper (no. 151). Very beautiful copy enriched with a colored pencil drawing signed by J. Laboureur. This work, among the most famous by Jacques Cazotte (1719, Dijon – 1792, Paris), is reprinted according to the first edition published in 1772. This narrative, in which a young nobleman meets the Devil in various forms, is considered a precursor to the fantastic literature that emerged in the last third of the 18th century.
