This plate is based on a drawing by Madeleine Françoise Basseporte and originally belonged to the collection "Traité de la Fabrique des Manœuvres les vaisseaux" of 1747 (Henri L. Duhamel du Monceau). It appeared in the section: "Art of Rope Making" of chapter 1, page 10, Plate 1 Very good condition, old coloring. Jacques Renaud Benard (1731-1794) was a French engraver, primarily renowned for having provided a significant number of plates for the Encyclopedia of Diderot and d'Alembert, starting from the fourth volume in 1754.
