Testament politique de Charles, duc de Lorraine et de Bar, deposited in the hands of Emperor Leopold at Pressburg on November 29, 1687, in favor of the King of Hungary and his successors arriving at the Empire. STRAATMAN (Theodor Heinrich) — or attributed to CHEVREMONT. Lipsic, chez George Weitman 1697. Sextodecimo (16mo) (14.4 x 8.7 cm), 202 pp. 19th-century full red sheepskin binding, smooth spine with faux raised bands and title in gilt letters. Bookplate of the Library of Count Godefroy de Montgrand. Some minor foxing. A fine copy. A fine copy of this political treatise attributed to Charles V, Duke of Lorraine (1643-1690), a great captain in the service of the Empire and a major figure in the struggle against the Ottomans in the 17th century. Charles V, Duke of Lorraine was wronged in his rights by Louis XIV. He vowed a deep hatred for France; placed at the head of the Austrian troops in 1689, he took Mainz and Bonn. Upon his death, Louis XIV uttered these flattering words: "I have just lost the greatest of my enemies." The work sets out considerations on government, war, the administration of States, and the political conduct of the imperial monarchy. Count Godefroy de Montgrand (1822-1897), from whose library this work comes, was a historian, heraldist, and bibliophile, notably the author of the Armorial of the city of Marseille. Engraved armorial bookplate on the pastedown. An interesting copy due to its association between a Lorrain political work from the end of the 17th century and the provenance of an important 19th-century bibliophile.

Political treatise attributed to Charles V of Lorraine, a great imperial captain of the 17th century. 1697 edition. A testament to the political and military conceptions of the Habsburg Europe. A fine copy, provenance Godefroy de Montgrand.
