View of the Palace of Dijon ca. 1675 PERELLE (Gabriel) after SILVESTRE (Israël) Engraved in intaglio by Gabriel Pérelle (1604-1677) after the drawings of Israël Silvestre (1621-1691), state sold by Nicolas Langlois. Sheet dimensions: 20.2 x 28.7 cm Plate mark dimensions: 11.4 x 21.3 cm Marked plate mark, printed on laid paper, good condition, wide margins. We are aware of three states sold by Mariette, Langlois, and Drevet. This engraving depicts the Parliament of Burgundy in Dijon from a three-quarter view before it became the Palace of Justice. The building is situated in an almost picturesque environment, thanks to the presence of nature and small figures that enliven the scene. Gabriel Pérelle (1604-1677), a French engraver recognized for his interpretative works, frequently collaborated with the draftsman Israël Silvestre. By definition, interpretative engraving is the production of an engraved image from another image, most often drawn, whose nuances are unique to the engraver artist.
