Very attractive view of the Ionian island of Corfu, showing the harbour and the old and new castles. Matthäus Merian (1593-1650) was a famous engraver and publisher of books and prints. He worked in Oppenheim, Strasbourg and Basel. He was a pupil of Théodore de Bry and trained Wenzel Hollar.</p>
