Upper headcap trimmed, bumped corners, and light abrasions. Fourth edition published in 1751 (the first published in 1668). The work consists of a poem on the art of painting in Latin translated into French, remarks, and finally an explanation of terms specific to drawing and painting. Charles-Alphonse Dufresnoy (1611-1668), a French painter, art critic, and poet, was a student of Simon Vouet and François Perrier. His Latin poem "De Arte Graphica Liber" published in 1668 by Roger de Piles in Paris greatly contributed to his reputation.
