The Great Strasbourg Shooting of 1576 and the Arrival of the Zurichers in Strasbourg. Historical study. REUSS (Rodolphe) Strasbourg, Treuttel et Würtz, 1876. Octavo (8vo), 48 pp (22.2 x 14.2 cm). First Edition in the form of an offprint of this study dedicated to the Great Shooting of Strasbourg of 1576 and the famous Hirsebreifahrt of the Zurichers (millet porridge journey - The Zurichers proved they would be there to rescue Strasbourg, in less time than it takes for a pot of hot Millet to cool down). Based on the archives of the Magistrate and municipal sources, it constitutes a classic contribution to the history of relations between Strasbourg and the Swiss cantons in the 16th century. This issue is presented in a more concise form than some more developed versions known elsewhere (approximately 90 to 92 pages with preliminaries), here reduced to a continuous text of 48 pages. Beautiful copy in red half-cloth binding with corners, cardboard covers, the first adorned with the arms of the City of Strasbourg blind-stamped and gilt. Interior very fresh, free of foxing. Two white labels are noted on the edge, marked "S" and "62" corresponding to the classification of the work in a collection. Copy bearing a collection stamp "A. Ritleng", from the library of Alfred Ritleng (1828-1905), notary and important Strasbourg bibliophile, a major figure in local artistic life and first president of the Alsatian Museum. Rodolphe Reuss and Alfred Ritleng knew each other and moved in the same scholarly circles in Strasbourg at the end of the 19th century. Good copy, well preserved, interesting for its decorated binding, condition, and provenance.

Important study by Rodolphe Reuss, historian of Strasbourg, based on municipal archives and dedicated to one of the most emblematic episodes of the relations between Strasbourg and Zurich. Beautiful copy from the Alfred Ritleng provenance.
