Provisional Regulation on Infantry Service in the Field.
1778
PROVISIONAL REGULATION ON INFANTRY SERVICE IN THE FIELD Metz, J.-B. Collignon, 1778 Octavo (8vo) (16.8 x 10 cm), full havana calf leather of the period, smooth spine compartmentalized with fleurons, title piece, red edges. Lower joint split for about 3 cm, and 1 cm on the upper joint. Small loss on the upper board. Binding nevertheless very solid and pleasant. Interior very fresh. Provincial edition contemporary with the promulgation of the royal regulation of 1778, printed in Metz by J.-B. Collignon, a major military place of the kingdom. This regulatory text sets the principles of organization and operation of infantry in the field: marching order, discipline, guard service, encampment, military police, distributions, and tactical dispositions. As is often the case with 18th-century military regulations, it is a practical work intended for officers and units in service, hence the relative rarity of well-preserved copies in period binding.
First Edition, printed in Metz, Royal military regulation of infantry in the field, intended for officers. Normative text organizing service, discipline, and operations in the field. Reference copy for the end of the Ancien Régime.
